Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Swartz's Career Bests Give Pacers First Win Over Cabrini since 2011

Radnor, Pa. - Thomas Swartz had career- and game-highs of 34 points and 15 rebounds as Marywood University's men's basketball team picked up their first win over Cabrini College in nearly eight years as the Pacers defeated the Cavaliers 78-74 on the  road.

The Pacers (10-5, 2-0 Atlantic East) earned their first victory over the Cavs since January 10, 2011 (57-55).  Tone Cockrell and Jack Degroot each had 13 for Marywood in the win.

Cabrini got 25 from Anthony Wright-Downing and 12 from Ivan Robinson in the loss.  The Cavaliers are now 2-13 (0-2 AEC).

Swartz's 34 came on 12-of-17 shooting from the floor and a 5-of-7 clip from three point range. He completed the double-double with 13 defensive boards and two on the offensive end for 15 total. Swartz's highest scoring output to date was 33 in January of last year in a win over Cairn and his previous high of 14 boards came in a February 2018 win over Centenary.

Though Marywood led for much of the contest, things got interesting late when Cabrini hit a three to tie things up at 67-67 with 3:16 to go. Marywood responded with a three from Donovan Catchings and a turnaround jumper from Swartz for a quick 5-0 run.

The hosts would hit another three to get back to within two (72-70), but following Cabrini's timeout with 1:16 to go, Marywood scored six unanswered, four of which came from Degroot, en route to the win.

Both teams shot over 46% from the floor but Marywood hit 50% (9 of 18) of their threes while Cabrini was just 7 of 21 (33.3%) on their long-range attempts.

Marywood is back on the road Saturday when they face Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia for a 3:00 pm league matchup against the Saints.
