Dickey's Double OT Game-Winner Ices Wolverines

Marywood, Wesley play to overtime for third time in as many games

Scranton, Pa. – A double overtime game-winner lifted Marywood University to sole possession of first place in the Atlantic East Conference field hockey standings. Jenna Dickey scored the golden goal in the first minute of the second overtime period to secure a 3-2 victory over Wesley College.

The Pacers (9-3, 2-0) staved off a two-goal fourth quarter comeback over the defending Atlantic East champions. Marywood avenged a pair of overtime losses to the Wolverines last season. It marked the Pacers' seventh consecutive victory

Dickey scored in the 71st minute off of a breakaway opportunity. Lindsey Quinn intercepted a back-line pass and sent a thru-ball that created a 1-on-1 chance with Dickey and the netminder. Dickey fired shot to the far post from 8 yards away, aided by a charging Lindsey Gladden that assured the attempt passed the line.

Dickey finished with two goals. Gladden added a goal and an assist. Quinn was credited with an assist on the double overtime tally.

Marywood went on top with two goals in the first quarter. Gladded won a ball off of a Wesley back and sent a cross to the center. Dickey's shot traveled underneath the goalkeeper's kick for a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. Four minutes later, Gladden doubled the Pacers lead. A Lindsey Quinn shot was saved and kicked out by the goalkeeper. Gladden retrieved the ball 15 yards out and released a shot through traffic for goal.

Wesley (8-4, 1-1) evened the score with two goals in the fourth quarter. Madison Terzaghi fired a 15-yard hard shot from Margaret Johnson in the 51st minute. Carly Setting had an equalizer on a 55th minute penalty corner with assists from Jessica Behorner and Kristen Fuhr.

In overtime, Marywood benefited from a huge defensive stop from Gwyneth Gleason. Playing a woman down, the Wolverines sent forward a pass past the last defender to set up a 1-on-1 breakaway chance. Gleason caught up to the defender at the top of the circle and shoed the ball away from the Wolverines forward. Gleason showed off her former forward skills by taking the ball to the offensive end before forcing a penalty corner opportunity.

Kerrie Mountz notched the victory with a save.

Marywood doubled the Wolverines 12-6 in shots. The Pacers had an 11-3 advantage in shots on target and an 8-5 favor in penalty corners.

The Pacers host Wilkes University on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
