DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Pacers Survive Second-Straight 2OT in Final Minute

Lindsey Quinn bats down Lindsey Gladden assist for golden goal

Scranton, Pa. – For the second consecutive game, Marywood University field hockey needed two overtime periods en route to extending its program-long winning streak. The Pacers scored with 43 seconds remaining to defeat Wilkes University 3-2 in double overtime on Tuesday.

Lindsey Quinn tallied the game-winning goal in the 80th minute of play. Lindsey Gladden lifted a cross to the far left post for Quinn to bat down at the line.

Marywood (10-3) won its eighth consecutive game to set an all-time winning record, surpassing the previous mark of six in 1998.

Gladden finished with a pair of assists, coming in two short of a school record with nine on the season. Jenna Dickey finished with a goal and an assist.

Both Quinn and Dickey each moved into a tie for sixth place all-time with 26 career goals.

Marywood awoke from a first quarter slumber that yielded two Wilkes goals in less than three minutes. Morghan Murphy deflected a long Amber Grohowski pass into the box in the ninth minute for an early goal. In the 12th, Maddie Kelley redirected a hard-hit cross from the right side to increase the Colonels' lead to 2-0.

The Pacers revived themselves in the second half with a pair of goals. Dickey changed the momentum in the 43rd minute from a Gladden assist. Gladden won a ball off of a defender after sprinting down the right flank. Her cross was swept into the cage at the near side.

Within four minutes of the fourth quarter, Angela Sanchez tallied her eighth of the season off of a Dickey assist for the equalizer. Quinn engineered the play by beating three defenders downfield. After Quinn's shot was initially stopped by the keeper, Dickey dished left for Sanchez to hammer into the cage.

For the next 31 minutes, both teams battled in a back-and-forth play. Dickey's shot in the 57th minute was stopped by defender Kacee Diehl. Kerrie Mountz made a string of back-to-back-to-back-to-back saves midway through the first overtime stanza. Kenzie Drew made a defensive save to start the second overtime frame.

Marywood had a breath of fresh air after Wilkes' Lauren Shiplett's reverse chip shot dinged off the high left post, taking a Marywood-favored deflection away from the cage.

Both teams fared evenly on the box score. Marywood held a 20-17 advantage in shots and 14-11 favor in shots on target. Wilkes (8-7) and Marywood each had nine penalty corners.

Mountz finished with eight saves for her 10th victory of the season. Her counterpart Vanessa Damgaard had nine stops.

Marywood heads into another matchup against a formidable opponent when it travels to 2018 NCAA Qualifier Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday.
