Pacers Squash Streak, Take Down Mighty Macs in Four Sets

Sam Compton finishes with a double-double of 16 digs, 10 kills

Immaculata, Pa. – Marywood University secured its first Atlantic East Conference volleyball win of the season with a 3-1 decision over Immaculata University on Tuesday. After giving up the first set, the Pacers battled back to win the last three.

Marywood won by scores of 19-25, 25-18, 25-9, 25-14.

Peri Sheerin dominated with 16 kills. She committed just three errors for a .433 hitting percentage and blocked three shots. Sheerin tallied three consecutive aces to create separation between the Pacers and Mighty Macs in the fourth set.

Sam Compton finished with her second double-double of the season. Her season-high 16 digs were complemented by 10 kills.

Sara Burgos provided 33 assists, and Jordan Vossler came through late with 21 digs.

Nicole Cashman was a mere dig and kill away from a double-double with nine apiece. She did not commit an error on her 20 shots and posted a .450 hitting percentage.

After dropping the first set, Marywood found itself trailing by as many as six (9-3) in the second. On Cashman serves, the Pacers went on a 10-point run that changed the course of the match. Ashley King had back-to-back kills to put the Pacers in striking distance. A Sheerin kill increase the Pacers' lead to 13-9. Sheerin evened the match score at 1-1 with a kill.

In the third, the Pacers again benefited from the Cashman service game. Holding onto a 6-4 lead, the Pacers won seven straight points.

Immaculata and Marywood were tied 9-9 in the fourth set before the Pacers went on a 13-1 run on Sheerin and Burgos serves.

The Pacers end a seven-match losing streak. It marks the fourth consecutive win for the Pacers over Immaculata.

Marywood shot .294 for the match to the Macs' .111.

Natalie Dependahl led the Macs with 14 kills.

Marywood heads to a tri-match on Saturday in Virginia. The Pacers take on defending Atlantic East champions Marymount University and Lebanon Valley College.
