Pacers Remain Perfect in AEC Play, Shut Out Marymount 2-0

Arlington, Va. - Marywood University picked up its fourth consecutive win – all coming in shutout fashion – by downing host Marymount University 2-0 Saturday afternoon outside Washington, D.C.

The Pacers leveled their overall record at 6-6 and moved to 3-0 in the Atlantic East to remain in a first-place tie with Wesley College (8-6, 3-0).  Marymount fell to 4-9-2 (1-2-1) with the loss.

In the 25th minute, a Jackie VonItter corner kick bounced around before Cara Romaniello put it home for her third goal of the week. Despite holding the majority of play over the opening 30 minutes, Marywood was put to the test the remainder of the half.  The host Saints started applying offensive pressure, had several dangerous direct kicks around the 18, and had one shot ring off the crossbar. Despite out-shooting Marywood 11-5 in the opening half, the Pacers' defense and goalkeeper Bella DiToma kept them off the scoreboard.

Six minutes into the second half, another VonItter corner kick found the goal. This time, Molly Sobolewski's flicking header went to the far-post netting to double the Pacers' lead.

Marywood dominated the second half statistically, taking offensive command while limiting opportunities for the hosts in out-shooting them 14-4.  That gave the Pacers a 19-15 advantage in shots for the game, including an 8-5 mark in shots on goal.  Marywood also had seven corners to one for the Saints.

DiToma finished with five saves for her third straight clean sheet in goal.

Wednesday marks the beginning of a tough three-game stretch for the Pacers as they travel to Cabrini to face the pre-season coaches' pick Cavaliers.  Game time in Radnor is set for 4:30 pm.
