Pacers Take Early Lead, Fall to Cavaliers in Atlantic East Showdown

Peri Sheerin leads with 14 kills

Radnor, Pa. – Marywood University took the first set before eventually falling 3-1 to Cabrini University Wednesday in non-conference women's volleyball. The Pacers fell by scores of 23-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-14.

Peri Sheerin finished with 14 kills and a .375 attack percentage. Sheerin contributed with three block assists.

Mikayla Attwood controlled the net with seven kills and five block assists. Sara Burgos provided 34 assists and nine digs.

Jordan Vossler inched towards the career digs record with 20. Sam Compton had 13 digs.

The Pacers (9-17, 3-1 Atlantic East) shot .137 for the match. Cabrini (12-10, 3-0 Atlantic East) had a .273 hitting mark.

Cabrini's Katrina Shelly garnered 18 kills and 15 digs. Gina Custer totaled 20 digs. Steph Judkins tallied 21 kills and 10 digs.

Trailing 5-1, Marywood went on a seven-point run on Vossler serves in the first set. Cabrini had a 22-20 lead before a three-point stretch gave the Pacers the lead. With the score knotted at 23 apiece, Sheerin supplied the Pacers with an advantage on a Compton assist. Attwood and Sheerin blocked the last point to take the first set.

The second set played out in similar fashion. Cabrini owned a 22-19 advantage that the Pacers overcame. An Attwood kill squared the set at 23-23 apiece. The Cavaliers evened the match at 1-1 with a Judkins kills and Marywood attack error.

Marywood came within two (19-17) in the third before Melanie Cotes-Rivera serves stretched the lead to five. Cabrini won the first five points of the fourth set and carried that to 10-3 lead.

Marywood heads to the University of Scranton for a tri-match with the Royals and DeSales on Friday. The Pacers turnaround to host Gwynedd Mercy University Saturday for Senior Day.
