Volleyball Captures No. 4 Seed, Triumphs over Wesley

Marywood will host No.5 Gwynedd Mercy on Tuesday

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University locked the No. 4 seed in the Atlantic East volleyball playoffs with a 3-1 victory over Wesley College on Saturday. The Pacers will host No. 5 Gwynedd Mercy University Tuesday in the first Atlantic East home playoff game in program history.

Marywood defeated the Wolverines by scores of 25-15, 25-16, 19-25, 25-22.

Jordan Vossler recorded 31 digs to move just three short of becoming the first 2,000-dig player in school history. She also added four assists.

Sara Burgos had a double-double with 40 assists and 11 digs.

Peri Sheerin finished her last regular season game with 14 kills and two aces. Sam Compton tallied her second consecutive game in double figures with 10 kills. She was just one dig shy of a double-double.

Nicole Cashman contributed with nine kills and eight digs. Ashley King had eight kills and a .286 hhint percentage.

In the first set, the teams were even 11-11 before Marywood went off for a seven-point run on Sheerin serves. Mikayla Attwood bookended the run with a kill to make it 18-11.

Marywood rode out to an 18-2 lead in the second set. The Pacers had 11 consecutive points off of Compton serves that included a trip of Cashman kills. Wesley came back to make it a respectable 24-16 on five straight points. Burgos redirected a set to an attack to secure the game.

Wesley played third-set spoiler by turning a 10-9 deficit and winning 10 of the next 11 points.

The Pacers held on to a comfortable 23-16 in the deciding fourth set. Wesley again found its groove by winning six-straight points to turn it into just a 23-22 Marywood advantage. An attack error at the net gave the Pacers match point, and Compton ended the match with a kill.

Marywood (13-18) enters the Atlantic East playoffs on a three-match winning streak.

The Pacers host the Griffins Tuesday at 7:00 pm. Marywood defeated Gwynedd Mercy 3-1 on Oct. 26.
