Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

John Jay Sinks Men's Basketball for Electric City Classic Title

Scranton, Pa. - Visiting John Jay College's Doug Levy hit a three pointer with a second remaining to propel the Greyhounds to the inaugural Holiday Inn Express Electric City Classic title. John Jay won 67-65 to improve to 3-1. Marywood fell to 2-5.

In the second straight exciting finish for the Pacers, Levy, who was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, got his final chance on a full-court run from the Bloodhounds following a timeout.  Trailing by three with 11 seconds left, Marywood pressed for the tying three.  John Jay would wisely foul Donovan Catchings, sending him to the free throw line. Catchings would sink both freebies with seven seconds left, but Marywood still trailed by one.

Adam Boussatta promptly stole the ensuing inbounds pass, and found Zack Tinkham for a go-ahead lay-in with six seconds left.

Following a John Jay timeout, Levy provided the end of game heroics for the visitors.  Marywood could not get off a shot following a timeout of their own as the game ended.

Boussatta and Jack DeGroot were named to the All-Tournament team for the Pacers.  Kyle LaGuardia joined Levy on the All-Tournament team for the Bloodhounds.

Catchings led Marywood with a team high 19 points. Boussatta added 18 in the loss while DeGroot, following a 27-point performance last evening, added 16.  Levy had a game-high 23 points in the win, and added the game's lone double-double by grabbing 10 rebounds. LaGuardia had 10 points for the Bloodhounds in Saturday's victory. Teammate Jayson Brower had 16.

John Jay shot 40% from the floor in the opening half, while Marywood, who entered the break with a 31-29 lead, shot over 48%.  Second half efficiency proved to be the difference, as the Bloodhounds connected on 50% of their efforts while limiting the Pacers to 36% shooting (9 of 25).  John Jay also out-rebounded Marywood 36-25.

Marywood travels to nearby Keystone College Tuesday for a 7:00 pm tip-off in LaPlume.
