IT'S OUR TIME | Field Hockey Captures Atlantic East Championship

Lindsey Quinn scores game-winning goal in double overtime thriller

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University won the 2019 Atlantic East Conference Field Hockey Championship with a 2-1 double overtime victory over Wesley College on Saturday. The top-seeded Pacers earned their first conference title in 22 seasons.

Lindsey Quinn scored the golden goal in double overtime. In the 73rd minute, Lindsey Gladden beat out a defender for a two-on-one breakaway chance. Gladden crossed the ball from the right perimeter to the left side. Quinn knocked in a ball from 5 yards from the left side to the back of the cage.

With a goal and an assist, Quinn was selected the Most Valuable Player for the Atlantic East Championships.

Marywood (16-3) sets a school record for wins. Riding a 14-game winning streak, the Pacers will await their fate in the coming days. The NCAA Selection press release is scheduled for 11:30 p.m. on Sunday night, and the ECAC playoffs will be released on Monday. Marywood is currently ranked No. 8 in its region.

Julie Trott (Dougherty) '12 earns a championship in her first season as head coach.

The Pacers came back from a one-goal deficit with a fourth quarter comeback. Trailing by a goal, Jenna Dickey delivered the much-needed equalizer in the 56th minute. Quinn delivered a ball from the right side. Dickey deflected Quinn's cross into the corner of the cage to even the score at 1-1.

Both of Marywood's goals were produced on woman-up opportunities.

Kerri Mountz finished with three saves to earn the victory. The Wolverines' Lauren Berry made seven stops.

Marywood outshot Wesley by an 11-8 margin, and the Pacers held on to a 9-4 advantage in shots on target. Trott's squad tripled the Wolverines 18-6 in penalty corners.

All four of the Marywood-Wesley matchups since the Atlantic East's inauguration have been decided in overtime.

Quinn moves into a tie for fifth all-time in goals with 28. She also assumes third in assists (19). Gladden is tied for second with 10 assists this season, and Quinn is tied for fourth in assists (nine) and  fifth in single-season points (35).

It is the Pacers' fourth conference championship in school history. Marywood's last title also came against Wesley when it defeated the Wolverines 1-0 for the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (now CSAC) crown in 1998. It defeated Misericordia in 1993 and Eastern in 1992.

Marywood has won three of the six Atlantic East championships in 2019-20.
