Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Rhoden, Ringland Lead Marywood to First Postseason Win

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University's men's basketball picked up the first postseason win in program history as the #2 Pacers dismantled #3 Medaille College 89-77 Wednesday evening in the first round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournament.

Marywood (17-10) advances to take on the top seed of Pod 3, Brandeis University, on Friday at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland.  Hood will host the final three rounds Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Brandeis (15-11) was a 75-49 winner over #4 John Jay College.

The Pacers had previously been 0-7 (0-1) in post-season games all-time.

Jaden Rhoden led all scorers with a game-high 24 points and Jeremy Ringland, the newly crowned Atlantic East Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year, had a double-double with 20 points and 10 boards.

Marywood shot a blistering 64.6% from the field for the game.  They hit 16 of 27 (59.3%) from the floor in the first half and 15 of 21 (71.4%) in the second.  They were also 45.5% (5 of 11) from long range.

Two other players, Tone Cockrell (18) and Jack DeGroot (15) reached double digits for Marywood, who continued their record setting season with their 17th win.

The Pacers opened the game five-for-five from the field and opened a 25-14 lead before Medaille's first timeout.  At that point, Marywood had outscored their visitors 12-6 in the paint as DeGroot opened with 10 points in the first 11:14 of the game.

The Mavericks, who close their season at 14-14 overall, made a brief comeback after that timeout but trailed by 10 (40-30) at the half.

For much of the second-half, Marywood led by double-digits, never allowing Medaille to truly threaten.

Tip-off for the quarterfinal matchup between Marywood and Brandeis will be at 5:00 pm.  The winner of that matchup will take on the winner of Pod 2's quarterfinal featuring #1 Drew University and #3 Marymount Saturday at 6:00 pm. Thursday.
