Women's Lacrosse Slips to Misericordia in Home Opener

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University fell to Misericordia University 15-4 Thursday in its women's lacrosse home opener. The Cougars broke open a 5-3 halftime advantage by outscoring the Pacers by a 10-1 margin in the second half.

Ashley King finished with a goal and an assist. Gwyneth Gleason provided three caused turnovers, three drawn controls and a goal.

Defensively, Melanie Wittick supplied three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Mary Leahy made seven saves.

Misericordia's Briana Ladner stifled the Pacers with eight draw controls and seven ground balls. Kaila Quinlivan tallied five goals and an assist for six points.

Marywood (1-1) took an early lead with a Gleason goal 35 seconds into regulation. Misericordia (3-1) strung together five consecutive goals over the next 20 minutes. Marywood ended the Cougars' momentum with back-to-back goals from King and Faith Grieshaber in a 74-second time span.

The Cougars scored nine consecutive goals to start the second half.

Despite the 11-goal difference, Misericordia outshot the Pacers by just a 24-22 margin.

Marywood returns to action Saturday against Arcadia University at 1 pm.
