Softball Edged by Concordia Chicago

Clermont, Fla. - Concordia Chicago (2-1) scored two runs in the fifth inning to break open a tied game and held off Marywood University (1-3) for a 7-5 non-conference softball win at Hancock Park in Clermont, Florida.

After getting Coach John Butash's first collegiate coaching victory early in the day, Marywood trailed the Cougars 2-1 after one inning of play. The Cougars would add two more in the second and one in the third to build a 5-1 lead, but the Pacers responded with a four-run third of their own to tie things up.

Marywood's third was highlighted by two unearned runs and a Kate O'Meara two-run single through the left side.

Jackie Burke went 2-for-3 at the plate while Juliana Beidler had a double for Marywood. Kelly McKenna struck out two in the opening three innings. Katie Siano (0-2) suffered the loss, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits in two innings.  Amanda Bridgwood pitched a scoreless final two inings for Marywood, striking out one and allowing one hit.

The Cougars had 15 hits in all, including five doubles.

Marywood will enjoy a day off before facing Lakeland University (3:45 pm) and the University of Dubuque (6:00 pm) on Thursday.
