Reed, Vaughan Lift Pacers to 7-5 Win over Mount Saint Mary

Newburgh, N.Y. – Four unanswered second half goals broke open a halftime draw to provide Marywood University with a 7-5 victory over Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.) Saturday in non-conference men's lacrosse action. It marks the third straight year that the Pacers and Knights were decided by two or fewer goals.

All three of Zach Vaughan's goals came in the second half fury. Vaughan had three of the Pacers' four second-half goals.

Connor Reed was superb in net, stopping three-fourths of the shot attempts. Reed finished with 15 saves with just five goals allowed.

Zach Beja finished with three assists. Jeff Johnsen had a pair of goals, and Luke Shedler totaled two points on a goal and an assist.

Justin Einwechter had his second-straight strong performance under a new jersey number. Einwechter garnered five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Seth D'ver contributed with four ground balls.

Zach Bradbury picked up five ground balls on his six faceoff wins.

Mount Saint Mary went up two goals in a seven-second span when Anthony Kearns and Billy Holland went back-to-back. Johnsen responded well with a goal from Beja just nine seconds later at 7:43.

Eric Morin evened the score with 47 seconds left in the first period. Shedler gave the Pacers their first lead (3-2) from Beja with 10:41 remaining in the half. The Knights evened the score at 7:34 on a man-up goal from Colby Martin.

The Pacers came out of the break with motors roaring with four-straight goals to take a 7-3 advantage. Vaughan added the go-ahead goal for his first at the 11:52 mark of the third. Forty seconds later, Johnsen doubled the Pacers' lead via a Beja pass to take a 5-3 lead.

Vaughan tacked on a man-down goal from Patrick Dingwell with 10:14 left. He finished the hat trick and the team's scoring with a goal with 7:17 to go in the game.

Mount Saint Mary scored twiced under three minutes to halve the lead to two. Bradbury won a faceoff and ground ball with 2:21 left to secure the win.

Marywood (3-5) edged the Knights 32-31 in shots but trailed 20-17 in shots on goal. Both teams had even turnovers (20), clears (15-20), and faceoffs (6). The Knights held on to a 38-28 advantage in ground balls.

The Pacers open their Atlantic East Conference schedule at Immaculata University on Saturday.
