Pacers Overpower Macs Right Out of the Gate for First-Ever Atlantic East Win

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University won its inaugural Atlantic East Conference men's lacrosse contest with an 18-5 victory over Immaculata University Saturday. The Pacers jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first period.

Zach Vaughan led the Pacers with five goals and an assist for six points with six ground balls. Zach Beja recorded a hat trick.

Luke Shedler provided the Pacers with an all-around performance with two goals, two assists, five ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Matt Leen stopped three-fourths of shots faced with nine saves and just three goals allowed. Chris Tobin made one save in a brief appearance.

Jeff Johnsen finished with two goals and assist, matching Vaughan with a team-high six ground balls. Erin Morin contributed two goals.

Matt Mitarotonda and Patrick Dingwell each recorded a pair of assists.

David Smith, Tom Gibson, Zach Saneman and P.J. Matarazzo each had their first goals of the season.

Marywood (4-5, 1-0 Atlantic East) outshot the Mighty Macs by a 50-37 margin. The Pacers' defense kept the Macs to
an 11-for-20 performance on clears. Marywood had 49 ground balls to Immaculata's 40.

The Pacers jumped out of the gates with six unanswered goals to the start the game. Vaughan connected for the first two goals in the first six minutes.

After the Pacers' first run, they followed with nine straight goals over 26 minutes to take a 16-2 lead on Smith's goal with 9:40 remaining.

Marywood hosts No. 6 Cabrini University on Wednesday.
