Pacers' Offense Clicks in 18-8 Win over Golden Wolves

Reading, Pa. – Marywood University returned to the win column with an 18-8 victory over Alvernia University on Saturday in women's lacrosse. It marks the third consecutive victory over the Golden Wolves.

The Pacers broke open a 5-4 lead with 11 consecutive goals. The Pacers defense held Alvernia scoreless for a 24-minute span.

Zoe Simeone led the Pacers with two goals, four assists for six points. Gwyneth Gleason returned to the lineup to produce five points on four goals and an assist, coupled with a team-high seven draw controls.

Freshman Ashley King tallied her first career hat trick. Gina Babcock spread her name all over the box score with two goals, two assists, four ground balls, four caused turnovers, and three draw controls.

Defensively, Maeve MacKenna had three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Mary Leahy made four saves.

Ashley Cunningham scored her first career goal. Brielle Peters and Kayla McCabe had their first career multi-goal performances.

Marywood opened the game with a goal from Faith Grieshaber from Simeone at the 27:31 mark. After Alvernia's Brittany Defibaugh evened the score, the Pacers responded with three straight goals over an eight-minute span. Simeone's first of the game opened the scoring to 4-1 at the 12:10 mark. Erika Whitmoyer and Peters traded goals in a 34-second differential, and the Golden Wolves used goals from Gianna Taffo and Defibaugh to trim the deficit to 5-4 with 5:19 remaining in the first half.

Gleason kickstarted the 11-goal rally with a goal at 2:44. The Pacers capped the half with three in the last three minutes with McCabe's netter providing the Pacers with an 8-4 lead heading into the break.

Cunningham bookended the momentum burst with a goal from Babcock at 15:31 to make it a 16-4 lead. Alvernia had four straight goals.

Whitmoyer led the Golden Wolves with two goals and two assists. Kathrine Giannaras had 18 saves.

Marywood tripled the Golden Wolves 45-15 in shots and 36-12 in shots on goal. The Pacers committed just nine turnovers to Alvernia's 24 giveaways. The Pacers had a 17-10 advantage in draws.

Marywood heads to the Garden State to face Drew University on Tuesday.
