Women's Lacrosse Slips to Undefeated Rangers, 16-9

 Madison, N.J. - Marywood University used a late charge to come within four goals of undefeated Drew University before ultimately falling 16-9 Tuesday in non-conference women's lacrosse. The Rangers went on an 8-1 run over 15 minutes to distance themselves from the Pacers.

Zoe Simeone led the Pacers in scoring for the fourth consecutive game with four goals. She also contributed a team-high three caused turnovers.

Gina Babcock and Molly Yelencsics each finished with a pair of goals. Babcock added four draw controls. Gwyneth Gleason had a team-best five draws.

Mary Leahy made 11 saves in goal.

Drew's Allie DiDario scored her 100th career goal in a four-goal performance with 10 draw controls. Mia Campanele also contributed four goals, and Hailey Simmons garnered five ground balls.

The undefeated Rangers (10-0) outshot the Pacers (4-4) by a 32-27 margin. Marywood trailed Drew 18-16 in ground balls and 17-10 in draw controls.

Both teams were evenly matched through the first 20 minutes of the game. Simeone tied the game at 3-3 with an unassisted goal with 7:23 left in the half. From there, the Rangers piled on five goals in a 2:10 span to take an 8-3 lead. Simeone scored her third of the half with 45 seconds left to head into the break at a four-goal disadvantage.

Trailing 11-4 with 21 minutes left, Simeone started a Pacers' rally. Marywood scored four out of five goals. Brielle Peters had a woman-up goal at 16:01, and Babcock's tally just under 12 minutes put the Pacers within four (12-8). 

Melanie Wittick won the draw for Marywood, and a Simeone shot was stopped by keeper Kat Michalski. Following Ashley King's ground ball, the Rangers' Meliha Emini caused a turnover and Mia Campanele scored to end the threat.

The Pacers responded with a Leahy save. Gleason picked up the ground ball, went coast-to-coast to feed a pass to Babcock to make it 13-9 with 8:20 left.

DiDario scored twice down the stretch to ensure the win.

Marywood faces back-to-back games this weekend, taking on Immaculata University in its Atlantic East Conference opener before hosting King's College on Sunday.
