Marywood Sweeps Rosemont After Sixth Inning Comeback in Opener

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University used a three-run sixth inning en route to a comeback victory in the first game of a doubleheader sweep of Rosemont College Sunday in non-conference softball action. The Pacers swept the Ravens by scores of 4-3 and 6-1.

Trailing by two in the opening game, Kate O'Meara hit a bases-clearing double to even the score at 3-3 in the sixth inning. On the next at-bat, Sarah Witte had the game-winning RBI with a single to center field that allowed pinch runner Sarah Sharp to score the go-ahead run.

Kaitlyn Epler finished the series by hitting 4 for 8 with two runs, an RBI and two stolen bases.

Game 1: Marywood 4, Rosemont 3

Megan Gaeb and Witte each batted 2 for 3 in the opening game. O'Meara finished with a pair of RBIs, and Jackie Burke stole twice.

Katie Siano notched her first victory of the season with a complete game effort. She allowed two earned runs.

Marywood opened the game with a run in the bottom of the first when Jackie Burke poked a single through the right side to drive in Epler.

Rosemont evened the score in the top of the fourth. The Ravens loaded the bases with no outs following a pair of singles and an RBI. Sierra Mulgrew made a lunging catch in right field to keep the runners at bay. Madison Hagerty hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Whalen.

In the sixth, Rosemont opened with two runs to start the inning. Analisa Yoder tripled to left field to start the frame. Emily Bingman hit a two-run home run to straight center field for a 3-1 lead.

Julianna Beidler started the sixth with a walk and scored a run. Megan Gaeb followed with a single.

Game 2: Marywood 6, Rosemont 1

The Pacers opened with a two-run lead and finished with three runs on three two-baggers in the fifth inning to down the Ravens in the nightcap.

Kirstie Alvarez evened her record to 3-3 with a complete game performance. She allowed no earned runs with three strikes and five hits allowed.

Beidler went 3 for 4 with a run and two RBIs. Epler and Burke finished with two hits apiece with a run and an RBI.

Hayes went 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI. Annie Heyen had a pair of hits with a double.

Marywood tacked on two runs in the first after a rare 3-4-9-2 play iced a runner at home plate. Burke hit an RBI single to score Beidler. Hailey Rapisardi hit a double to center field to score Burke.

With a 3-1 lead, Heyen started the fifth with a leadoff double. Sharp scored on a Sara Hayes double down the right field line. Epler hit a standup twobagger to right center that drove in Hayes. Beidler drove in the Pacers' final run with a single through the left side.

Marywood travels to Clarks Summit University on Monday and Juniata College on Tuesday.
