Juniata Sweeps Marywood in Pair of One-Run Games

Huntingdon, Pa. - Host Juniata College swept a non-conference twinbill from Marywood Tuesday afternoon with a pair of one-run victories. Juniata took a low-scoring opening game 3-2 before winning the nightcap, 7-6.

Marywood opened both games with a early lead. In game one, the Pacers scored twice in the top of the first when Sierra Mulgrew's single scored two unearned runs. A homerun from Juniata in the bottom of the first would cut the host's deficit in half, and they would later tie the game in the third on an RBI single. 

The score would remain tied until the bottom of the seventh, when an RBI single would score an unearned game-winning run for Juniata.

In the nightcap, Marywood again built an early 2-0 lead as Jackie Burke hit a two-run shot to left field.  But Juniata responded with three runs in the bottom half of the frame and after scoring twice in the fourth and sixth the hosts held a 7-2 lead.  

Marywood did their best to make things interesting, scoring four times in their last at-bat, highlighted by a Kirstie Alvarez three-run homer, to make it a 7-6 game but fell a run short of tying the game up.  

Marywood opens Atlantic East Conference play Saturday as the Pacers travel to Wesley College for a doubleheader. Game one begins at 1:00 pm.
