Pacers Blitz Mighty Macs for First Atlantic East Victory

Immaculata, Pa. – Marywood University earned its first Atlantic East Conference women's lacrosse victory with an 18-9 victory over Immaculata University on Saturday. The Pacers opened with five unanswered goals in eight minutes.

Gina Babcock set career-highs with five goals, two assists for seven points. Babcock also finished with three ground balls.

Gwyneth Gleason paced Marywood with four goals and two assists for six points.

Molly Yelencsics and Zoe Simeone tallied two goals and an assist with the former leading the team with eight draw controls. Ashley King and Brielle Peters each finished with a goal and an assist.

Defensively, Melanie Wittick stifled the Mighty Macs with five caused turnovers and six draw controls. Mary Leahy garnered the victory with six saves.

Marywood (5-4, 1-0 Atlantic East) led the Mighty Macs 35-19 in shots. The Mighty Macs held on to a 20-19 edge in ground balls. Marywood won 19 of 29 draw controls.

Gleason opened the Atlantic East slate with a goal in the first 21 seconds of regulation. Peters followed with a goal from Babcock just 44 seconds later to take a 2-0 lead. King found the net at the 22:13 mark to supply the Pacers with a 5-0 advantage.

Immaculata traded goals with the Macs (3-5, 0-1 AEC) when Maura Murray cut the deficit to 7-3 with 12:43 left in the first half. Gleason responded with a tally from Yelencsics, followed by a Babcock-from-Gleason connected to go ahead 9-3 with 9:41.

Marywood piled on four straight goals in the last 2:35. Gleason's goal with 27 seconds remaining sent the Pacers into halftime with a 14-5 lead.

Maddy Langlotz had her first goal of the season.

Marywood has a short turnaround with a home game versus King's College on Sunday at 2 pm.
