Women's Lacrosse Breaks Out for 17-7 Win over Monarchs

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University exploded out of a first half slump with seven unanswered goals to topple King's College 17-7 in women's lacrosse action on Sunday. The Pacers won their second game in as many days before facing two key Atlantic East Conference matchups this week.

Molly Yelencsics had a career-best effort with four goals. Zoe Simeone led the Pacers with five points on four goals and an assist.

Gina Babcock continued her dominant weekend with three goals and an assist. Faith Grieshaber matched her top scoring performance of the year with a goal and two assists.

Gwyneth Gleason finished with two goals, two assists, four ground balls, two caused turnovers, and five draw controls. Sami Stein had four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Mary Leahy made six saves for her sixth win of the season.

Despite a rash of early turnovers, the Pacers held on to a comfortable 5-1 advantage in the opening stages of the game. Yelencsics connected on an unassisted goal with 16:43 left in the first period.

The Monarchs strung together three straight goals to come within one with 12:50 remaining in the half. Bailey Jordan scored 37 seconds after Yelencsics' tally. Jen O'Connor scored at 14:42, and Emma Lehman put the Monarchs within striking distance when her 12:50 goal cut the Pacers' lead to 5-4.

Yelencsics revived the Pacers with a woman-up goal at 8:51. Marywood scored three times in the last four minutes, and the Pacers outscored the Monarchs 13-1 over the next 33 minutes.

Sami Stein scored her first of the season on a fantastic play from the defensive midfield. Jenna Durbin picked up a ground ball on a King's turnover. Stein received the ball and made it into the offensive territory for a successful clear. Seeing an open lane, she made two moves on King's defenders before sending a shot inside the post to take an 8-4 lead with 3:17 left.

Maddy Langlotz scored her second goal in as many days with a woman-up free-position shot at the 24:07 mark of the second for an 11-4 advantage.

Lehman scored four times for King's. O'Connor had seven draw controls.

The Pacers take on Atlantic East heavyweights Cabrini University and Marymount University on the road on Wednesday and Saturday, respectively.
