Women's Lacrosse Locks No. 1 Seed in Atlantic East Playoffs

Marywood sails past Griffins in 21-2 victory

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University secured the top spot in the Atlantic East Conference women's lacrosse playoffs with a resounding 21-2 victory over Gwynedd Mercy University on Wednesday. The Pacers (10-4, 5-0) had a pair of players come within one point of career plateaus.

Gwyneth Gleason posed fits for the Griffins with four goals, two assists for six points. She added eight draw controls, four caused turnovers and four ground balls. Gleason stands one shy of reaching the 200 Point Club.

Faith Grieshaber had a career game of five points on three goals and two assists.

Mary Leahy was stellar in net, turning away nine shots and letting just two into net. She finished with an 81.8 save percentage and three ground balls.

Molly Yelencsics and Zoe Simeone recorded a hat trick. Simeone is within one point of 100 for her career.

Fresh off of her 100th Point game, Gina Babcock added three to her total with two goals and an assist. She managed three ground balls. Freshman Kayla McCabe matched her scoring production.

Defensively, Mikayla Matthews caused three turnovers. She also scored her first goal of the season. Likewise, freshman Jenna Durbin had the first points of her career. Durbin totaled a goal and an assist with four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Abbie Laime set a career-high with two goals.

The Griffins (4-11, 0-5) received goals from Laura Pelczar and Samantha Brown.

It marked the Pacers' 10th consecutive victory over the Griffins. The Pacers' 21 goals in each of the past two games are the first time the program has reached that mark since the 2012 season.

With the victory, Marywood is assured of the bye and home field advantage. It is the first time the Pacers have had the top spot in conference playoffs since 2012. Marywood receives a bye through the first round of the playoffs.

The Atlantic East Conference semifinal is set for Wednesday, May 1. The championship will be hosted by the top remaining seed on Saturday, May 4.
