Women's Lacrosse Wraps Undefeated Atlantic East Conference Schedule

Pacers enter Atlantic East tournament as No. 1 seed

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University juniors Gwyneth Gleason and Zoe Simeone reached career milestones to lead the first-place Pacers to an 18-5 victory over Neumann University Wednesday in the Atlantic East Conference women's lacrosse regular season finale. The Pacers head into the inaugural playoff tournament as the No. 1 seed and receive a bye in the first round.

Gleason becomes the sixth in program history to reach 200 points in her career. Simeone is the 14th player to join the 100 Point Club.

Simeone and Molly Yelencsics each provided five goals and an assist. Gleason matched them with six points on four goals and two assists.

Faith Grieshaber set a career high with four assists. Gina Babcock was the only other Pacers with multiple points, factoring in with a goal and an assist.

Gleason contributed defensively with four caused turnovers and six ground balls. Yelencsics, Simeone, Brielle Peters and Melanie Wittick each had three ground balls. On the draw, Wittick led with five controls.

Senior goalkeeper Mary Leahy made two saves for the victory.

Freshman Emma Solomon scored her first career goal. Mikayla Matthews had her second of the season, along with a key draw control.

Neumann received a hat trick from Courtney Petrucelli. Reilly Fiedler and Kim Hesser each had five draw controls.

The Knights (10-7, 3-3) went on the scoreboard first with an early Petrucelli goal. Gleason responded with a tally of her own to even the score at the 23:53 mark. Two minutes later, Simeone had an unassisted goal to take the lead but Petrucelli notched her second to even the score at 2-2 with 19:36 remaining.

Marywood responded with seven unanswered goals to take a 9-2 lead. Simeone and Yelencsics teamed to take a 3-2 lead at 18:42. Yelencsics went back-to-back-to-back to bookend the run at 9:21.

Neumann showed life in the waning moments of the first and waking minutes of the second halves with three out of four goals scored. With 11 seconds remaining, Petrucelli tacked on her third to cut the deficit to 10-4 at halftime. Brittany Cassidy opened the second half with goal in the first six seconds.

Marywood (11-4, 6-0) held Neumann scoreless for the last 29:54 and finished on an eight-goal run.

In the Atlantic East tournament, Neumann earned the No. 4 seed and faces No. 5 Immaculata University this weekend. Third-seeded Marymount University hosts No. 6 Gwynedd Mercy University in the other first round matchup. Marywood will take on the lowest remaining seed on Wednesday.
