Alvarez Picks Up Win and Save in Sweep of Cedar Crest

Scranton, Pa. - For the second series in a row Kirstie Alvarez picked up a win and a save on the mound as Marywood University swept Cedar Crest College by scores of 4-3 and 8-6 Tuesday afternoon in non-conference softball action.

Alvarez got her sixth (6-4) of the year in the 4-3 opening game victory, striking out four in a complete-game effort.  In the nightcap, Alvarez came on to earn the save, allowing no runs and just one hit in two innings of work.

Alvarez earned the win in game one and save in game two in the Pacers Cazenovia Sunday.

The Pacers, winners of four straight, jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in game one, plating all three of those runs in the home half of the second inning.  Sara Hayes started things off with an RBI single through the right side to score Megan Gaeb, and Hannah Docalovich later brought home Hayes on a sacrifice flyout to left.  Lauryn Butler would then bring home Kate O'Meara as she grounded out to the pitcher.

Cedar Crest responded with a three-run third to tie things up, and things would stay that way until the bottom of the seventh.  There, Jackie Burke hit a one-out single down the left field line and would move to second on a Kaitlyn Epler single to left.  Burke would move to third on a sac fly from Julianna Beidler, and come home for the winning run on a wild pitch.

In game two, Marywood used three-run innings in the second and fourth to come away with the 8-6 win.  Gaeb drove in three for the Pacers while Epler was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and three run scored in the nightcap win.

Katie Siano earned her second straight win to move to 3-5 on the year. She allowed four earned runs and struck out one in five innings of work. Alvarez's save was her second on the year.

Marywood travels to nearby Wilkes Wednesday for a 3:00 pm non-conference doubleheader.
