Pacers Falter to Monarchs, Split Season Series

Wilkes-Barre Twp., Pa. – An early Marywood University fell by the wayside in a 6-2 loss to King's College Tuesday in non-conference baseball action. The Pacers, who defeated the Monarchs in thrilling fashion in late March, split the season series in the Luzerne County rivals.

Jake Schuster raised his batting average above .400 with a 3 for 4 performance at the plate. Schuster posted a pair of doubles and an RBI.

The Pacers went ahead in the top of the first. After Shane Smith reached on a single up the middle, Schuster drove a two-bagger to right center to take the early 1-0 lead.

King's responded in the bottom frame with three runs of their own. Kyle Friebolin hit a two RBI double to give the Monarchs a 3-1 lead. King's added two more in the bottom of the second inning.

Trailing 6-1, the Pacers added one more in the top of the seventh. John Mandarano led off with a double to right center and scored on a double play ball.

Mandarano finished with a run scored.

The Marywood bullpen allowed just one earned run and two hits in 6 2/3 innings. Joseph Bruno gave up a run in 5 2/3 innings on the hill. Nicholas Boyer came in for a scoreless eighth.

The Pacers will head to Dover, Delaware Saturday to take on Wesley College in a doubleheader. The Atlantic East Conference finale will determine the sixth and final playoff spot in the double elimination tournament.
