Baseball Eliminated from Playoff Contention, Splits with Wesley

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Dover, Del. - After winning a tight opening game 3-2 to stay alive in the Atlantic East Conference playoff hunt, Marywood University's baseball team dropped the second game to host Wesley College which eliminated the Pacers from the conference post-season.

Wesley (4-24-1, 2-10 Atlantic East) grabs the sixth and final playoff spot via the fourth tiebreaker (runs allowed vs Conference opponenets).  Marywood's 3-2 win had evened the run differential as both teams finished league play with identical 2-10 records.

Trevor Powers allowed five hits over the opening four innings and Tyler Quick earned the save in the opener, not allowing a hit over the final three innings as Marywood held on for a 3-2 win.

Powers scored in the first inning on an error to give the Pacers a 1-0 lead, but Wesley plated one run in both the first and second to take a 2-1 lead.  Anthony Navaro singled in a run and another would score on an error on the same play as Marywood reclaimed a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth. The Pacers would hold off the Wolverines the rest of the way, thanks in part to Quick striking out one and facing the minimum nine batters over three innings of relief work.

Marywood did not carry that momentum into game two though, and the hosts advanced to the playoff race with the 10-2 win.

Wesley went up 1-0 on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second, but a two-run single from Powers gave the Pacers the lead the very next inning.  That would be short lived though, as the Wolverines used a two-run inning of their own in the botttom of the third to go up 3-2.  They would add another run in the fourth, then put the game away with three-run innings in the fifth and eighth.

Marywood will host Clarks Summit University Tuesday at 4:00 pm in a single game for their season finale.
