Pacers Advance to Atlantic East Championship with 18-8 Win over Neumann

Zoe Simeone posts six goals, seven ground balls and four caused turnovers

Scranton, Pa. – Top-seeded Marywood University reached the Atlantic East Conference final with an 18-8 victory over No. 4 Neumann University Wednesday in the semifinal. The Pacers will host Cabrini University on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the inaugural Atlantic East championship game.

Marywood (12-4) scored the first eight goals of the game in the opening 10 minutes. It marks the Pacers' third-straight trip to a conference final, all of which were against Cabrini. It is the first time Marywood will host a conference championship game since the 2012 season.

Zoe Simeone led the Pacers with a career-high six goals. Simeone had an all-around performance with seven ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Gwyneth Gleason also provided Marywood with six points. She scored four goals and two assists, leading the team with five draw controls.

Molly Yelencsics contributed with two goals and three assists for five points, along with four draws. Melanie Wittick came off of the bench for five draw controls and three caused turnovers.  

Freshman Brielle Peters had a career-high of four points on two goals and an assist. Faith Grieshaber manufactured a goal and two assists from her newfound role as an attack. Gina Babcock scored twice.

In goal, Mary Leahy made six saves to preserve the victory. Her counterpart Catriona Corrigan made five stops.

Neumann's Kaitlyn Conrad returned to the lineup with six goals.

Marywood outshot Neumann by a 28-20 margin. Both teams committed 23 turnovers. Neumann had an 25-18 advantage in ground balls, and Marywood led the Kngihts 18-10 in draw controls.
