Pacers' Rally Stopped Short in 8-7 Loss to Saints

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University rallied from a five-goal deficit at halftime to even score late in the fourth quarter before ultimately falling to Marymount University 8-7 Saturday in Atlantic East Conference men's lacrosse action. The Pacers slip to 4-7 overall with a 1-2 conference record.

After the Pacers evened the score at 7-7, Clark Akers scored the game-winning goal with 5:22 remaining.

Senior Luke McFadden led the Pacers' defensive effort with nine ground balls. Fellow senior Justin Einwechter provided five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Sophomore goalkeeper Matt Leen made 14 saves with four ground balls.

The Pacers outscored the Saints 5-2 in the second half.

Dingwell was a part of more than half of the team's scoring with three goals and an assist. Mitarotonda finished with two goals and an assist. Vaughan contributed two cause turnovers, a goal and an assist.

Zach Bradbury went 7 of 15 from the faceoff-x with four ground balls.  

Trailing 6-1 at halftime, the Pacers rallied with four straight goals in the third quarter. Vaughan kicked things off with a goal from Dingwell just over two minutes into the half. Dingwell followed with back-to-back goals from Mitarotonda and Hunter Fountain to cut the deficit to two. Jeff Johnsen followed through with an unassisted goal at 4:29 to make it a 6-5 game.

Troy Tangolics gave life to the Saints with 13 seconds left in the third from Matthew Ebert.

Mitarotonda did his best to keep Marywood in contention with a pair of goals in the fourth quarter. Mitarotonda scored with 6:22 remaining to even the score at 7-7. One minute later, Akers had the game-winning goal.
Leen made three saves in the final six minutes to keep the Pacers in contention. The Pacers got the ball back with 30 seconds left, but Tangolics caused a turnover at midfield to ensure the victory.

It marked the Senior Day game for eight student-athletes in the Class of 2019: Alex Lunsmann, David Smith, Luke Shedler, Zach Beja, Luke McFadden, Seth D'Ver, Matt Mitarotonda and Justin Einwechter.

Tangolics finished with a hat trick, six ground balls, and three caused turnovers for the Saints. Riley Scales also had six ground balls, and Grey Clarkson finished with 12 saves.

The Pacers host Susquehanna University on Tuesday at 6 pm.
