Immaculata Shuts Out Marywood in Doubleheader Sweep

Scranton, Pa. - Visiting Immaculata University picked up two key conference wins as the Mighty Macs shut out Marywood University in both ends of a twinbill Saturday afternoon.  Immaculata won game one 4-0 and game two 6-0.

The Mighty Macs improve to 3-1 in Atlantic East Conference play and 14-5-1 overall with the wins. Marywood fell to 9-15 (1-3 AEC) with the losses.

In the opener, the visitors scored four runs, all unearned, in the fifth inning.  After a runner reached on a throwing error and moved to second on a sac bunt, another error on a failed rundown allowed the batter to reach and the runner to score.  Keani Hindel later blasted a three run homer over the right field fence to make it 4-0.

Marywood's bats struggled to get going in the opener and provided Kirstie Alvarez (6-6) with no run support.  Alvarez struck out five in the loss, allowing seven hits and the four unearned runs.

Immaculata's Jessica Bormann improved to 6-1 on the year, striking out three and allowing six hits in her complete game win.

Alvarez went 2-for-3 at the plate while Megan Gaeb had a double.

In game two, it was more of the same for the Marywood offense as they managed just five hits and no runs.  Immaculata broke open a 2-0 game with a three-run fourth and added one more for good measure in the sixth.

Katie Siano fell to 3-6 after allowing four earned runs. Amanda Bridgwood struck out two in one inning of work and did not allow a hit.

Marywood hosts Delaware Valley University (7-15) tomorrow in a 1:00 pm non-conference doubleheader.
