FHOC Drops Opener to Geneseo

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - In an evenly played match throughout, Marywood University came up on the wrong side of a 3-0 score in its 2019 opener with SUNY Geneseo at the Betty Richey tournament hosted by Vassar. The Pacers will play Stevens in the consolation game Saturday at 11:30 am.

Julie Trott's head coaching debut saw the Pacers slip behind 3-0 in the first half but held the Knights scoreless in the second.  Kerrie Mountz made a game-high nine stops on the loss.

In the opening period of play, Geneseo's Haley Clark would score off a goalkeeper deflection in the eight minute of action. The Knights would score with less than five minutes to go in the opening half to double their lead, then tacked on their final goal with under a minute remaining before the break.

Marywood held its own for the most part with Geneseo, but just could not find the back of the cage. The Knights held a 18-13 advantage in shots (13-5 on goal) and led the Pacers 8-5 in penalty corners.

Angela Sanchez led the way for the Marywood attack, hitting the target two times on four attempts.

Marisa Mongioi had a defensive save for the Pacers.
