Pacers Shut Down by No. 6 Montclair State in Opener

Montclair, N.J. – Marywood University opened its 2019 men's soccer campaign with an 8-0 loss to No. 6 Montclair State on Friday. The Pacers trailed by one through the first 38 minutes before the Red Hawks piled four goals in the last six minutes of the first half.

The Pacers had conceded just a penalty kick to Jose Huerta in the 12th minute.

Matt Neto started the scoring barrage in the 39th minute on a goal from Anthony Pelaez. Neto finished with a hat trick, finishing the feat on a Stefan Koroman-assisted goal in the 58th.

The Red Hawks outshot the Pacers 25-2 overall and 16-0 on target. Montclair State had five corner kicks to the Pacers' two.

Freshman Darren Hyde made eight saves in the losing effort. Christopher Valdes and Carlos Perez each had a shot.

Marywood will take on New Jersey City University on Saturday in Montclair.
