Dinnell Performs Late-Game Magic Again with Double Overtime Winner

Jon Dinnell scores on a direct kick in the 109th minute

Scranton, Pa. – For the second time in three days, Marywood University sophomore center-back Jon Dinnell netted a game-winning goal in the late stages of a game. Dinnell scored a game-winning in double overtime to knock off Hartwick College 2-1 on Wednesday in non-conference men's soccer.

Dinnell beat the wall and found the left post on a direct kick in the 109th minute. Giovanni Amato was tripped just outside of the 18 to set up Dinnell's second goal of the season with 1:18 left in the last period of overtime.

On Monday, Dinnell had the game-winning goal in the Pacers' 4-3 victory against Rutgers-Newark.

The victory already gives the Pacers (2-5-0) an improvement over last year's one-win season.

Both teams' regulation goals were produced on penalty kicks. Zac Lloyd gave the Pacers a 1-0 lead with a PK goal in the 64th minute.

With just 71 seconds before the final whistle, Hartwick (1-4-0) evened the score on a PK chance of its own. Troy Amegashie put a shot past the keeper to send the game into overtime.

The Pacers' Mike Gallagher notched his second victory of the season with one save.

Dinnell did his part on the defensive side. In the 18th minute, he stopped a shot from going in as the last line of defense, earning a team save to keep the Hawks scoreless.

Marywood outshot the Hawks by a 26-9 margin and had an 11-3 advantage in attempts on target. It held on to a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.

The Pacers continue their home stand on Saturday when they host Albright College at 1:00 pm. Marywood earned its only win of last season against the Lions. Over the past two seasons, Lloyd has four goals against the Lions, including a hat trick and two game-winning goals.
