Sheerin Posts 1,000th Career Kill; Pacers Split Home Tri-Match

Scranton, Pa. - Peri Sheerin became the first in Marywood University volleyball history to reach 1,000 career kills on Sunday afternoon. Sheerin tallied 15 kills in two matches to achieve 1,012 for her career.

Marywood split a home tri-match with Cedar Crest College and Manhattanville College. The Pacers downed Cedar Crest 25-13, 25-15, 27-25. Marywood fell to Manhattanville 25-21, 25-21, 17-25, 25-14.

Marywood won its fourth straight by defeating the Falcons.

Needing three to reach the career plateau, Sheerin finished with 11 kills, just one error, with a .303 attack percentage. She added two aces and two blocks for 14 points.

Sam Compton neared a double-double with nine kills and 11 digs. She also contributed a .286 hitting percentage. Nicole Cashman had eight kills.

Jordan Vossler registered 29 digs. Sara Burgos averaged more than 10 assists per set with 31. Mikayla Attwood had three block assists.

Marywood came out swinging with a 10-1 run to start the match. Sheerin opened with two straight points, and Compton had three kills on Vossler's eight-serve run.

In the second set, Marywood held on to just a 14-13 lead before outscoring the Falcons 11-2 down the stretch.

The Pacers trailed by as much as 23-15 before coming back to a 27-25 victory to end the match. Sheerin had three kills, but Cedar Crest benefited from a service error to get set point (24-19). Five straight attack errors led to an even score. Cashman took the lead with a kill that benefited from a daring cross-court dig by Compton. Attwood closed the set with a emphatic kill over the net's horizon.

Manhattanville 3, Marywood 1

Marywood was unable to crack the Valiants in a four-set loss.

Compton again came short of a double-double but supplied a team-best 13.5 points. She had 12 kills and nine digs.

Burgos assisted on 31 attempts and contributed 14 digs. Vossler recouped from early receiving troubles to net 29 digs.

Attwood and Sheerin dominated the front line with six and four block assists, respectively.

King matched her career-high with 10 kills. She committed just one error for a .360 attack percentage.

Manhattanville's Vianca Vital garnered 43 assists and 20 digs. Austen Brauer had 14 kills.

Marywood welcomes Penn State Harrisburg on Tuesday night.
