Pacers Threaten Royals, Unable to Get Past GK in 4-0 Loss

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University was unable to find the back of the net in a 4-0 loss to the University of Scranton Wednesday in non-conference men's soccer. The Pacers were within a goal of the crosstown Royals for the first 57 minutes, and the Royals finished with two tallies in the final five minutes.

Despite the score, the Pacers had just a 7-4 disadvantage in shots on target. The Pacers edged the Royals 5-4 in corner kicks.

Scranton's Jon Roberts and Michael Donnelly each scored twice.

Roberts garnered the first goal in the 23rd minute when he fired a one-touch pass from Nick Kaplewski and Christian Arcos in the box. Later in the 58th minute, Roberts again dampened the Pacers' upset chances when he played a ball in the air, sending it to the far post.

Donnelly scored twice in four minutes to solidify the Royals' victory. He played a ball from Justin Hammert at the edge of the box and beat the Pacers' goalkeeper. With nine seconds remaining, he teamed up with Justin's brother Blake Hammert on a ball played in the air.

Mike Gallagher made three saves for the Pacers.

Marywood (0-3) has a week to prepare for King's College. The Pacers head to Wilkes-Barre Township to take on the Monarchs on Sept. 11 at 7:00 pm.
