Late Run Propels Gwynedd over Marywood, 74-61

Scranton, Pa. - A late second half run pushed visiting Gwynedd Mercy University past Marywood University 74-61 in Atlantic East men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Insalaco Arena.  The Griffins improved to 10-4 overall and 1-0 in the league while the Pacers slipped to 5-9 (0-2).

After trailing early on, Marywood rallied towards the end of the first half and went into the break with a one-point, 30-29 lead.  Marywood hit nearly 46% of their first half shots while limiting the Griffins to 37.5% in the first half.

Things would flip in the second half, as Gwynedd connected on 43% of their efforts from the floor while holding Marywood to 36.3% of their shots.

The Pacers and Griffins traded leads early in the second half, but after Marywood was up 54-53 with eight minutes remaining, the Griffins' defense clamped down and limited Marywood to just seven more points the rest of the way.

Gwynedd Mercy outscored Marywood 46-16 in the paint, and converted 25 Marywood turnovers into 28 points on the day. The Griffins committed just 13 miscues of their own in the win. Despite hitting 10 three's and limiting GMU to just two, the Griffins' inside game proved to be the difference maker.

Rich Dunham led the visitors with a game-high 26 points on 9 of 19 shooting from the floor while going a perfect 7-for-7 on the line. Three other Gwynedd Mercy players reached double figures, two of which had 13.

Jack DeGroot led Marywood with 23.  DeGroot was 7 of 14 from the floor and connected on three trey's. Adam Boussatta had 15 but was the only other Pacer to reach double digits.

Marywood travels to King's Monday evening for their final non-conference game of the season. Tip-off in Wilkes-Barre is set for 7:00 pm.
