Pacers Open Atlantic East Slate with Setback to Macs

Donovan Catchings, Tom DeFilippo finish with 15 points

Immaculata, Pa. - Marywood University finished a 73-65 setback to Immaculata University Wednesday to open the Atlantic East Conference men's basketball schedule. Both teams exchanged leads 16 times throughout the game.

Donovan Catchings and Tom DeFilippo each finished with a team-best 15 points. Jack DeGroot had 12 points.

Immaculata benefited from a 93.8 percent night (15 of 16) at the charity stripe. Marywood finished 12 of 17 (70.6 percent) from the line.

The Mighty Macs were led by Jordan Ambrose's 18 points. Brandon McCullough garnered 16 points, and Asa Kitchen finished with 12. Tyler Tillery had an all-around effort with nine points, nine rebounds and four blocks.

Trailing by 15 in the early minutes of the second half, Marywood turned things around with a 10-point run, capped by a Curnow layup following a Matt McKenna offensive board near the midway point. Immaculata quickly responded with six straight of its own, taking a 56-45 lead on Ambrose free throws at the 7:32 mark.

Marywood cut it back to a two-possession game on a Curnow jumper in the paint that made it 60-55 with 2:30 remaining. McCullough picked up an offensive rebound and made a long-range shot that diminished the Pacers' hopes with 94 seconds left. Immaculata made eight consecutive free throws in the last 25 seconds to close the game.

The Pacers host Gwynedd Mercy University at 3:00 pm on Saturday.
