Men's Basketball Falls at Marymount, Hosts Play-In Game Monday

Arlington, Va. - Host Marymount University doubled-up Marywood University in the second half to erase a six-point halftime deficit, defeating the Pacers 85-65 in the Atlantic East regular season finale Saturday night.

The loss forces a "play-in" game between Marywood and Neumann University Monday evening to determine the sixth and final seed in the Atlantic East post-season tournament. A coin-toss determined the Pacers as the host of the game.

Marywood (7-18, 2-10 AEC) had 19 points from Jack DeGroot, who led a trio of Pacers in double figures. Steve Etienne had a game-high 20 points off the bench for the Saints (16-9, 9-3).

Trailing 39-33 at the break, host Marymount doubled-up Marywood 56-28 in the second half to earn the #3 seed in the upcoming conference playoffs. The Saints will host either Marywood or Neumann Tuesday night. Because of the play-in game Monday between the Paces and the Knights, the AEC playoff format has been pushed to Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday from Monday-Wednesday-Saturday.  Marywood and Neumann split their regular season meetings.

Marywood led 54-46 with 12:17 to play, but Marymount outscored the Pacers 20-4 over the next six minutes to take control. The Saints used another 17-4 run over the next five minutes to take a commanding 83-61 lead with 57 seconds to play.

Donovan Catchings (11) and Adam Boussatta (10) joined DeGroot in double digits for Marywood in the loss.

Marywood and Neumann will tip-off at 7:00 pm Monday at the Insalaco Arena.
