Catchings Breaks Career Assists Record; Pacers Advance to AEC Postseason

Mayrwood travels to #3 Marymount tomorrow for 7:00 pm first round game

Scranton, Pa. - Donovan Catchings broke the career assists record at Marywood as the men's basketball team defeated Neumann University 91-79 for the sixth and final playoff spot in the Atlantic East post-season tournament.

The Pacers improve to 8-18 on the year. Neumann closes their season at 8-18.

Catchings had 11 assists in the win, the third of which surpassed Matt Chapman's career record of 354 helpers set from 2002-2006. The 11 assists also ties a single-game record Catchings set on February 1 against Immaculata. Catchings now has 363 assists for his career, breaking the career record in just three seasons.

Catchings completed the double-double with 20 points. He was one shy of Adam Boussatta's game-high 21. Jason Holman added 17, and Jack DeGroot 12 in the win. Nasir Cassel had 18 to lead Neumann in the loss.

Tied at 26-26, Marywood closed the first half on a 11-2 run and never looked back in the second half. Holman connected long range to open the half and put Marywood up 42-28. The closest the Knights would get from there was a seven point (54-47) deficit with 12:24 to go.

Another Holman trey would put the Pacers back up double-digits, and the Marywood lead would hover around 10 the rest of the way.

The Pacers shot a blistering 53.6% (32 of 60) for the game. Neumann also shot well (52.8%) from the floor, but Marywood went 15 of 26 (57.7%) from three point ranged while the Knights hit just 7 of 17 (42%) from long range. Both teams had 28 boards and 32 points in the paint. Marywood committed just nine turnovers during the game and outscored Neumann 21-14 in points off turnovers.

Marywood has little time to celebrate the win as they travel to Marymount (Va.) to take on the #3 Saints Tuesday.  Marymount defeated the Pacers Saturday 85-65 to force today's play-in game.  Tip-off in Arlington is set for 7:00 pm.
