Manhattanville Ekes Past Men's Lacrosse in Back-and-Forth Battle

Purchase, N.Y. - Manhattanville College prevailed in a 12-11 nailbiter over Marywood University Saturday in non-conference men's lacrosse action. The Valiants scored the game-winning goal with 5:30 remaining in the contest and held the Pacers scoreless the rest of the way.

Patrick Dingwell posted a career-high five goals to lead the Pacers in scoring. Dalton Metzger added two goals and two assists for four points with four ground balls.

Connor Reed fared well in goal with 22 saves and five ground balls. Matt Potter caused a pair of turnovers.

At the faceoff-x, Zach Bradbury won 18 of 26 chances with nine ground balls to his credit. Eric Stewart provided four ground balls.

Manhattanville's Stephen Magarelli posted a hat trick with four ground balls. Will Duval matched a game-high with five points on two goals and three assists.

Trailing by two with 10 minutes remaining, Marywood (1-3) evened the score at 11 apiece with two Dingwell unassisted goals in a 96-second span. The Valiants' Ryan Leonard put in the game-winner with 5:30 remaining in regulation.

Marywood won the ensuing faceoff on a violation. Dingwell's shot was stopped by Mike McGrath, and Conor Keough caused a turnover. Manhattanville retained possession for the final 3:42 of the game.

Manhattanville outshot the Pacers by a 55-38 margin, and Pacers edged the Valiants 35-34 in ground balls.

Marywood trailed 6-3 before a five-goal run over a 14-minute span. Dingwell started the streak at 4:06 of the second quarter on an unassisted chance. Metzger evened the score two minutes later, and then assisted to Dingwell to go ahead at the start of the third quarter. Jeff Johnsen increased the lead to 8-6 from Metzger at the 6:33 mark. 

The Pacers (1-4) head to Edwardsville to take on Wilkes University on Tuesday afternoon.
