Morin Nets Decisive Goal to Squeak Past Colonels

Edwardsville, Pa. - Senior Eric Morin scored a game-winning goal to lift Marywood University to a 10-9 victory over Wilkes University Tuesday in men's lacrosse. The Pacers win their fifth consecutive game, the second consecutive one-goal decision, in the series with the Colonels.

Morin had an unassisted goal with 2:18 remaining in regulation to break a 9-9 tie. Ryan Matthews caused a turnover that enabled Morin's game-winning score. Matt Leen made a save with 15 seconds left to secure the victory.

His heroics provided Morin with his career-best fifth goal. He also contributed two ground balls.

Patrick Dingwell tallied two goals and an assist for three points. Zach Vaughan garnered a goal and two assists.

Leen captured the winning decision with 10 saves, allowing just four, in 30 minutes. Connor Reed had six saves in the first half.

At the faceoff-x, Zach Bradbury won 13 of 23 opportunities with seven ground balls. Tom Gibson totaled four ground balls and a caused turnover. Both Mathews and Dalton Metzger caused two turnovers.

Jeff Johnsen finished with a pair of goals.

Alex Meyers had a hat trick for the Colonels.

Wilkes (1-2) out-shot Marywood by a 39-34 margin and owned a 33-30 advantage in ground balls. The Pacers won despite committing 26 turnovers to the Colonels' 14. Marywood went 2 for 4 on extra-man opportunities and kept Wilkes scoreless on both of their chances.

The Colonels went on top 2-0 and kept the Pacers out of net for the first 13 minutes until Dingwell and Vaughan teamed up for back-to-back goals, Morin's first tally was a man-up goal to take a 3-2 lead.

Wilkes scored twice within 13 seconds, and Meyers' unassisted tally increased the lead to 5-3.

Marywood scored five straight goals to stretch the lead to three. Vaughan received a Metzger feed to send the game into halftime tied. Johnsen's goal from Ben Mustakos gave an 8-5 lead just less than three minutes left in the third quarter.

Wilkes had four goals in three minutes to put the game into an impasse to start the fourth quarter. Nico Lorenzo made it a 9-9 tie with an unassisted goal at 9:56.
