Glenside, Pa. - Marywood University started the women's lacrosse season with its second-straight road victory, defeating Arcadia University 13-6 on Saturday. The Pacers evened the series record 4-4 with their fourth straight win over the Knights in three seasons.
The Pacers (2-0) came out of the gates with seven of the first eight goals. A midway push by the Knights that trimmed halved the Pacers' lead to three (7-4) was stymied with a 6-2 run to close the game.
Molly Yelencsics led Marywood for the second straight game with five goals.
Gina Babcock matched her with five points on four goals and an assist, adding four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Gwyneth Gleason finished with two goals and two assists for four points. She added nine draw controls.
Ashley King provided a goal and assist for two points.
Alaina Brenneman caused a pair of turnovers. In the net,
Emily Dyminski made nine saves.
Arcadia (1-2) received six points (4g-2a) from Jess Kaye. Julia Imbert tallied a goal and two assists.
Marywood outshot the Knights by a 29-18 margin. The Pacers were 16 of 17 in clears and held on to a 19-12 advantage in ground balls. Coach
Kerrie Brown's squad doubled Arcadia 14-7 in draw controls.
Gleason opened the scoring with a goal 75 seconds into regulation. Babcock made an unassisted goal just within three minutes to double the score. Marywood's lead grew to 7-1 when the pair teamed up together with 1:12 remaining in the half.
Arcadia scored three-straight goals, kicking off with a Kaye netter just before the end of the first half. Yelencsics made the best of a woman-up chance to engineer the second-half shutdown.
Marywood stands idle until a three-game Spring Break trip that begins Saturday, March 7 at Ramapo College. The Pacers will face Washington and Jefferson College and Swarthmore College in Clearwater, Fla.
