Women's Soccer Edges Penn in OT

Scranton, Pa. - Victoria Tzitzis scored 30 seconds after entering the first overtime period to lift Marywood University women's soccer to a thrilling 1-0 win over visiting Penn College Tuesday evening.

Tzitzis' shot came after a pass from Riley Mulherin, which found Tzitzis on the far post for the game-winner. With the win, the Pacers (8-4) extended their unbeaten streak to four games and helped them win their sixth in their last seven outings.

Rebekah Becker made four crucial saves for the Pacers, who picked up their third consecutive clean sheet.

After Brooke Longstreet picked off a Wildcats' goal kick, Mulherin picked up the touch from Longstreet, found Madison Blackshire on the right flank and took the returned pass from her classmate into the center of the box, where she found Tzitzis on the far-post for the one-timed game-winner that trickled past Penn's goalkeeper.

The Pacers' goal came on their 32nd shot of the game, and 20th on goal, but was the only one they could sneak past Wildcats' goalkeeper Nicole Lichtinger, who made a game-high 19 stops in her impressive performance. Marywood also enjoyed a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks but could not finish one.

Time and time again, Marywood's attack was thwarted by Lichtinger. The visitors had several dangerous looks on counters throughout the night, but were held at bay by Becker and the Pacers' back line of Longstreet, Ashlyn Jess, Mackenzie Bennett and Julia Rodriguez.

Penn College fell to 5-8 with the tough road loss. Since surrendering a goal in the second minute of action against Cazenovia on October 3, Marywood has not allowed a goal in the last 363:15 of play.

The Pacers' return to action Saturday when they host Gwynedd Mercy University for a 1:00 pm Atlantic East Conference tilt.
