Keepers-Turned-Outfielders Score Twice to Lift Sowersby, Pacers to First Win

Marywood breaks away from scoreless halftime tie with four second-half goals

Brooklyn, N.Y. — Marywood University provided men's soccer head coach Hunter Sowersby with his first career victory in a 4-0 shutout over Pratt Institute on Wednesday night. The Pacers broke open a scoreless tie at halftime with four second-half goals to pick up their first win of the season.

In a rare event, two of the Pacers' four goals came from goalkeepers playing outfield positions for the first time in their careers. Freshman goalkeepers Niko Leibkuchler and Alex Russo traded their goalkeeper jerseys for away greens, only to find the net for their first career goals. Netminder Darren Hyde also played with one shot on goal.

Richard Fuchs ended the scoreless drought in the 62nd minute. Fuchs retrieved a missed clearance and wrapped the ball into the lower left corner from 19 yards out.

Less than two minutes later, Mason Guelho doubled the Pacers lead. Aram Aghababian fed Guelho a ball that was lofted to the back right post from 30 yards away.

Russo added a goal in the 73rd minute, heading a Trey Watson corner kick into the left side of the net. Leibkuchler capped the Pacers' scoring in the 87th minute. David Chemidlin crossed a ball from the right to the far side in the box. Leibkuchler hammered tapped the feed past the keeper from 8 yards out.

Brennan Anderson notched his first career win with five saves.

Marywood (1-8-1) outshot its opponents for the fourth consecutive game with a 17-8 advantage. The Pacers held on to an 8-5 edge in shots on target. Marywood edged the Cannoneers, 5-3, in corner kicks.

The Pacers look to keep their win streak alive Saturday at Gwynedd Mercy University.
