Men's Soccer Rolls to Second Straight Win, Drops Griffins on the Road

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. — Marywood University won its second consecutive game with a 4-1 decision over Gwynedd Mercy University Saturday in Atlantic East Conference men's soccer action. The Pacers earn their first conference victory of the record to move to 2-8-1 overall and 1-2-0 in Atlantic East play. 

Aram Aghababian scored a pair of goals, including the game-winning score in the 33rd minute. Ryan Raffino finished with two assists. 

It marks the Pacers' first victory over Gwynedd Mercy since the 2017 season. 

Alex Russo capped his first collegiate victory with three saves. 

In the 15th minute, Richard Fuchs found the back of the net for the second consecutive game. On a free kick, Marywood pulled off a bit of trickery with the first shooter faking an attempt before Fuchs came in from the right side to deliver the ball into the lower-left corner. 

The Griffins (1-14-0, 0-5-0 AEC) evened things in the 23rd minute. Gwynedd Mercy pulled off a beautiful fast-break situation. Tyler Bascone switched fields to hit a running Badr Fask that was coming in hot from the right side. Fask sunk the ball into the bottom left corner to draw the score at one apiece. 

Aghababian provided the game-winning goal in teh 33rd minute. The Marywood senior forward displayed fancy footwork to evade a defender and timed a solid kick that pulled both the defenders and goalkeeper off balance. With the Pacers playing one man-down after red cards were collectively issued to both teams, Aghababian doubled the Pacers score to 3-1 on Raffino's first helper. 

Trey Watson finished Marywood's scoring efforts int he 82nd minute. Raffino's corner kick found Watson's head on the fly for a well-timed score. 

Marywood outshot its opponents for the fifth straight game with the Pacers holding a 16-4 advantage and a 9-4 slight on target. Marywood had a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. 

The Pacers return home to add to their winning streak Wednesday versus Cabrini University at 7 p.m.
