Women's Swimming Downs King's; Men's Fall to Monarchs

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood's women's swimming and diving team defeated King's College for the first time since 2014 Saturday afternoon in the team's season opener. The women narrowly defeated the Monarchs 93-91, while the men's team fell to the Monarchs 126-50.

The women's team saw multiple first place finishes, starting with the 200 yard medley relay, consisting of Sabrina Zieger, Elise Shore, Samantha Peck, and Hannah Darmofal with a winning time of 2:03.24. This success was also seen in the 1000 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 200 IM, 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, and 500 freestyle.

Shore was perfect in her collegiate swimming debut, winning three out of three events for the Pacers. The sophomore transfer helped get her team's nose out front early, swimming the breaststroke leg of the victorious opening medley relay. She followed up that relay performance with two pivotal individual wins in the 200 IM (2:29.27) and 500 free (6:03.62), where she took commanding leads early and held on to defeat her opponents by a combined 20 seconds between the two events.

The men's team saw success in the 200 IM, with Dylan Hervieux finishing with a time of 2:18.92, nearly three and a half seconds faster then the rest of the King's competition. Herviuex would later see another first place finish in the 100 backstroke. This was followed by Cameron Gorman finishing first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.75.

The Pacers will be hosting the University of Scranton next Saturday, Oct. 23rd at 1:00 pm.
