Second Half Surge Pushes Field Hockey Over Immaculata, 5-1

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University field hockey used a four-goal second half en route to a 5-1 win over Immaculata University in Atlantic East Conference action. The win improves the Pacers to 8-7 overall and 1-2 in the AEC, while Immaculata slips to 4-13 (1-4 AEC).

Despite outshooting the Mighty Macs 8-0 in the opening quarter and 18-1 for the opening half of play, Marywood held a slim 1-0 lead at the break thanks to a second quarter goal from Mackenzie Hoats. Hoats finished off Sami Abbinanti's cross from the left side of the cage in the 24th minute of play to put the Pacers ahead.

Two late third quarter goals, the first from Cydney Lahr and the second from Abbinanti, extended the Marywood lead to 3-0 after three. Abbinanti then added another goal moments into the fourth quarter to give the Pacers a 4-0 lead. Cassie Slusser assisted on Abbinanti's first goal, which came with one second left on the clock in the third quarter.

Immaculata's Ryann Shemeley scored with just over three minutes to play to spoil the shutout bid, but Allie Rehnert gave the Pacers their four goal lead back when she scored off a feed from Hoats with 46 seconds left.

Marywood held a distinct 28-2 advantage in shots (21-2 on goal) and a 14-1 edge in penalty corners. Gabriella Pimentel picked up her first win of the season in goal for Marywood while making one save.

The Pacers take on co-league-leading St. Mary's College of Maryland Sunday afternoon. First tap is set for 1:00 pm in Scranton.
