Strong Second Half Lifts Field Hockey to AEC Semifinals

Scranton, Pa. - Cydney Lahr had two goals and Mackenzie Hoats added a goal and an assist to lead fourth-seeded Marywood University to a 5-2 win over fifth-seed Immaculata University Saturday afternoon in first round Atlantic East Conference tournament action.

The Pacers (10-8) also got a second-half shutout performance from Rachel Yohn, who entered to play goal for the final 30 minutes and made four saves to keep Immaculata from making a comeback.

The Mighty Macs (4-15) struck first, as Gabby Greco scored on a feed from Theresa Cerruti nearly 12 minutes in. Lahr then scored back to back goals to give Marywood the lead. The first came as she split serveral defenders before drilling it home in the 16th minute to knot the game. Lahr then took a crossed ball from Hoats in the 22nd minute and put it home to give Marywood a 2-1 lead.

That lead would only last four minutes though as Immaculata tied the game back up when Maddy Edwards scored on a helper from Lauren Buckel.

Just before half, Hoats finished a flurry of Marywood shots to give the hosts a 3-2 lead with just :56 left before intermission.

In the second half, Corrin Hasty and Shannon Gosline scored unassisted goals in the 36th and 57th minute, respectively, to seal the victory for the Pacers.

Marywood outshot Immaculata 24-7 (18-6 on goal) on the day and had an 11-6 advantage in penalty corners.  Gabriella Pimentel played the first half in goal for Marywood without making a save while Yohn finished with four stops. Immaculata's Julia Levase made a game-high 11 saves while Nicole Vigna had two defensive saves for the Mighy Macs.

Marywood will travel to face top seed St. Mary's College of Maryland Wednesday. Game time for the Atlantic East semifinal has not yet been set. #3 Gwynedd Mercy will travel to #2 Cabrini in the other semifinal.
