Field Hockey Bows Out of AEC Tourney in Semis

Pacers await possible ECAC tournament berth, field announced next week

St. Mary's City, Md. - Top-seeded St. Mary's College of Maryland eliminated #4 seed Marywood University from the Atlantic East Conference playoffs with a 3-0 win Wednesday afternoon. The Pacers, now 10-9 on the year, will await a possible bid to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournament.

Rachel Lansbury opened the scoring for the Seahawks (10-7) in the 13th minute, flicking a ball home from the left side into the far right corner of the cage.

The score would remain 1-0 until after halftime as the hosts held a 6-0 advantage in shots at the break.

Nearly six and a half minutes into the second half, Ashley Berrol doubled the St. Mary's College lead when she took a pass from Gabrielle Corder and scored from the penalty spot.

The hosts put the game away just as the third period clock expired as Audrey Dickens poked one past the keeper that Anna Eaton finished for the third and final goal.

In all, the Seahawks held a 12-5 advantage in shots and a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal. St. Mary's College also held a 6-3 advantage in penalty corners.

Rachel Yohn made four saves in goal for Marywood while Cydney Lahr was credited with a defensive save. Lauren Youngken led the Marywood attack with two shots and the only shot on goal for the Pacers.

The ECAC tournament field will be announced early next week after the NCAA tournament field is set.
