Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Marywood Opens Atlantic East Play with 3-0 Win at Immaculata

Blackshire has role in all three tallies

Immaculata, Pa. - Madison Blackshire scored twice and assisted on another goal as Marywood University women's soccer used a dominating performance to pick up a 3-0 road win over Atlantic East Conference foe Immaculata University. It was the conference opener for both squads.

For the second straight game, Marywood's offense was held in check in the first half, despite an overwhelming amount of chances. And for the second straight game, the Pacers' attack answered the challenge in the second half and put three in the net.

Marywood (6-4, 1-0 AEC) led the Mighty Macs 11-5 in shots after the opening stanza (6-1 on goal), but the scoreboard showed both teams knotted at zeroes after 45 minutes. Marywood had eight corners in the first half as well, but all of its efforts either narrowly missed, while six attempts were stopped by all-conference Mighty Mac netminder Brooke Sissler.

Just over two minutes into the second half, a foul just outside the left corner of the 18 yard box set up a direct kick for the Pacers. Antonella Doglio's ball in just around the top of the six found the head of Blackshire, who headed it home for the eventual game-winner.

In the 57th minute, Blackshire chased a loose ball to the right end line, crossed it and found Riley Mulherin in the center of the box. Mulherin took one touch to settle the cross before firing a shot to far-post netting to double the Pacers' lead.

With just over five minutes left in the game, Josephine Sorce won a loose ball in the middle of the field and one-timed a chipped ball over the top of the defense to Blackshire. The freshman ran onto it, chipped a charging Shisser at the top of the 18, outraced a trailing defender, and followed her own chip to tuck it home into an open net.

For the game, Marywood out-shot Immaculata (0-9, 0-1 AEC) by a 22-11 margin, but allowed just two shots on goal that were easily handled by Rebekah Becker in her 78 minutes of action. Victoria Talarico finished the shutout for the Pacers' in net.

Marywood concludes a four-game road trip Saturday with a trip to Arlington, Virginia to take on Marymount Univesity in a 1 p.m. Atlantic East battle.
