Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Blanks Marymount, 3-0

Arlington, Va. - Josephine Sorce scored twice and Julia Rodriguez picked up her first collegiate goal on a double-assist corner kick to propel visiting Marywood University to a 3-0 Atlantic East Conference win over Marymount University (Va.) Saturday afternoon in Arlington.

The Pacers, winners of five of their last six, picked up their second consecutive 3-0 win to open conference play after defeating Immaculata by an identical score earlier this week. Marywood improves to 7-4 overall and 2-0 in the AEC with the win, while the Saints fell to 2-9 (1-1 AEC).

Marywood opened the scoring on their first corner kick of the game just 3:45 into the contest. Antonella Doglio sent a ball to the far post which was redirected via head by Brooke Longstreet to the center of the goal. There, a charging Rodriguez redirected Longstreet's header into the goal to put the Pacers up 1-0 early. Both Doglio and Longstreet were credited with assists.

Despite the early score, Marywood could not find the back of the net again in the rest of the first stanza. Marywood outshot the hosts 6-1 in the opening half but Grace Needham made two other stops in the opening 45 to keep the game within reach for the Saints.

3:05 into the second, Sorce tallied her first of back-to-back goals. The sophomore dribbled past two defenders at the top of the box before chipping Needham to double the Pacers' lead. In the 81st minute, Sorce won a long throw-in from Ashlyn Jess on the front-post six-yard line and fired it home to near-post netting.

For the game, Marywood outshot the Saints 14-11 but limited the hosts to just one shot on goal, which was easily corralled by Rebekah Becker. Becker played the first 83 minutes in goal for Marywood before Victoria Talarico closed the shutout.

Marywood closes the non-conference portion of their schedule Tuesday night when they welcome Penn College to Scranton for a 7:00 pm kickoff.
