Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University earned its first-ever esports playoff victory with a 3-0 decision over Springfield College Tuesday night in the NECC Rocket League first round. The third-seeded Pacers face No. 7 Bryant University (Gold) in at Navigators Yellow semifinals on Nov. 30.
Marywood won by scores of 3-1, 6-1, 4-3.
In the first game,
Kyle Jenkins had a hand in all three scoring opportunities with two goals and an assist. James Marsh tallied a pair of saves, and
Jacob Lutsky helped with a pair of assists.
All three Marywood players had 400-plus efforts in a dominant second game. Jenkins had a match-high 569 points with three goals and an assist. Lutsky tallied two goals and two assists, and Marsh provided a goal and two assists.
The Pacers rushed out to a 4-1 lead in the third game when Marsh hit a long-ranged shot with 1:47 remaining. The Pride added a pair of late goals in the closing minute. Springfield missed an aerial shot in the closing seconds, and Marywoood cruised to the semifinals behind a two-goal, one-assist effort by Marsh.
